MusicTech Review

Sample Magic’s latest release is a deep techno odyssey containing 768 loops and one-shots, a bunch of MIDI files, and a collection of drum sampler patches and kits. From the brooding synths, deep atmospheres and throbbing basses to the weighty yet restrained drum loops, everything here is well produced, programmed and polished. The drum, bass and chord hits are solid and usable, although a few of them have quite a lot of lo-fi fluff. The only let down is the small handful of lacklustre vocal and FX shots. Ableton users have the added bonus of getting the solid bass and chord one-shots laid out in a handy Rack, including some basic effects and editing functions, along with SM’s custom-made suite of seven useful FX Racks. Although these add to the dry sounds, we found them a little CPU intensive.
