The SM studio has been more like Studio 54 of late as sample replay specialist Hal Ritson and drumming maesto Alex Reeves dusted down their classic live drum kits and vintage drum machines to create 101 stunningly authentic 70s and 80s disco era beats, breaks and fills in the highly anticipated follow-up to the acclaimed Vintage Breaks.
With Chic, early Michael Jackson, Pointer Sisters, KC and the Sunshine Band, Edwin Starr, Barry White, Salsoul Orchestra, The Bee Gees and Earth Wind & Fire as the creative inspirations, the SM studio has been in the grip of disco fever.
Not that we’re complaining – especially when the results are as mind-blowing as this. Like its predecessor, Vintage Breaks 2 – Disco Breaks utilises an array of classic drum hardware, vintage mics and pre-amps, unusual signal processors and the duo’s vast studio knowledge to create a bounty of disco breaks practically indistinguishable from their heyday counterparts.
But don’t take our word for it, check out the demo and judge for yourself (flares optional).
